The answer depends on which product you choose. Our shared SEO servers run a fixed, managed operating system that we look after for you, while our dedicated servers and VPS plans let you pick from every major operating system. Here is exactly what runs where.

Shared SEO hosting: CentOS, cPanel/WHM and CloudLinux

Every shared server we operate runs CentOS with cPanel/WHM on top of CloudLinux, and CloudLinux ships with KernelCare for rebootless kernel updates. In plain terms, that means:

• CentOS is the underlying Linux distribution, a stable, long-supported enterprise base.
• cPanel/WHM gives you the familiar control panel for managing sites, domains, databases, email and IP assignments without touching the command line.
• CloudLinux isolates each account into its own limited environment, so one busy or misbehaving site on the box cannot starve the others of CPU, memory or I/O.
• KernelCare applies kernel security patches live, so critical fixes land without a reboot and without the downtime a manual kernel upgrade would normally cause.

On shared plans the operating system is not something you choose or swap. That is by design: we manage the stack, keep it patched and tune it so that your accounts, and the dedicated Class C IPs attached to them, stay stable. If you are running a portfolio of sites and mainly want dedicated IP diversity, managed cPanel accounts and a stack that stays patched without your involvement, shared SEO hosting is the simpler choice, because the operating system is handled for you. If you need root access, custom software, a non-standard distribution, or Windows specifically, a dedicated server or VPS is the way to go.
