A PayPal subscription (also called a preapproved payment or billing agreement) lets PayPal charge you automatically each cycle without you approving every payment. If you no longer want that automatic charge to run, you cancel the agreement from inside your own PayPal account, not from your hosting control panel. The steps below walk through exactly where that setting lives.
How to cancel a PayPal subscription
- Login to your PayPal account.
- Click Profile.
- Click Profile and Settings.
- Click My Money. Under the 'My preapproved payments' section, click Update.
- Select the merchant's name or email address from the list.
- Click Cancel.
Once the agreement is cancelled, PayPal will not take any further automatic payments for that merchant. The cancellation stops future charges only; it does not reverse a payment that has already gone through.
What if a payment has already been taken?
If the charge you want back has already completed, cancelling the subscription will not refund it on its own. You can request a refund from Seohost.net by submitting a ticket through our support team. Include the transaction date and the PayPal reference so the billing team can find the payment quickly and process it against our refund terms.
Cancelling the payment is not the same as cancelling the service
It helps to keep two separate things in mind:
- Cancelling the PayPal subscription stops the automatic payment. Your hosting service and any renewal invoices still exist on our side; they simply will not be paid automatically.
- Cancelling the hosting service is a separate request you make to us, and it ends the account itself.
This distinction matters for SEO hosting in particular. If a site or a dedicated IP goes offline because a service lapses, search engines can start seeing crawl errors, and prolonged downtime can eventually affect how those pages are indexed. Google explains how to read that kind of drop in its guide to debugging search traffic drops. If you only meant to change payment method rather than close the account, let us know before the service is suspended so nothing is interrupted.
If you cannot find the merchant in the list
If the agreement does not appear under My preapproved payments, it usually means the subscription was already cancelled, or the original payment was a one-off rather than a recurring agreement. In that case there is nothing further to cancel, and any refund question can still be raised by ticket.
