To set up your hosting email on an iPhone or Android phone, add a new IMAP account using your full email address as the username, your mailbox password, and the secure server settings from cPanel: incoming server mail.yourdomain.com on port 993 (IMAP, SSL/TLS) and outgoing server mail.yourdomain.com on port 465 (SMTP, SSL/TLS). The steps below walk through both platforms.

Find your settings first

Every mailbox created in cPanel exposes its exact device settings. Open cPanel, go to the Email section, click Email Accounts, find the address, and click Connect Devices. That page lists the incoming and outgoing hostnames, ports, and protocols. For a modern, secure setup use these values:

  • Username: your full email address, for example you@yourdomain.com
  • Password: the mailbox password you set in cPanel
  • Incoming (IMAP): mail.yourdomain.com, port 993, SSL/TLS
  • Outgoing (SMTP): mail.yourdomain.com, port 465, SSL/TLS

Prefer IMAP over POP3 so the same messages, folders, and read status stay in sync across your phone, laptop, and webmail. POP3 (port 995) downloads mail to one device and is only worth using in narrow, single-device cases.

Set up email on iPhone (iOS)

  1. Open Settings, then tap Apps and choose Mail, or on older iOS scroll to Mail directly.
  2. Tap Mail Accounts, then Add Account, then Other.
  3. Tap Add Mail Account and enter your name, full email address, password, and a description. Tap Next.
  4. Make sure IMAP is selected at the top.
  5. Under Incoming Mail Server, set Host Name to mail.yourdomain.com, User Name to your full email address, and enter your password.
  6. Under Outgoing Mail Server, use the same host name, user name, and password. iOS asks for these even though the field is labeled optional.
  7. Tap Next. iOS verifies the connection over SSL, then tap Save.

If verification fails, open the account again, tap the account, then Advanced, and confirm the IMAP port is 993 with SSL on. For the outgoing server, tap SMTP, open the primary server, and confirm port 465 with Use SSL enabled.

Set up email on Android

Menu wording varies slightly by device and by app (Gmail, Outlook, or Samsung Email), but the sequence is the same. Using the Gmail app as the example:

  1. Open Gmail, tap your profile icon, then Add another account.
  2. Choose Other as the account type.
  3. Enter your full email address and tap Next, then choose Personal (IMAP).
  4. Enter your password and tap Next.
  5. On the Incoming server screen, set Server to mail.yourdomain.com, confirm the port is 993, and set Security type to SSL/TLS. Username is your full email address.
  6. On the Outgoing server screen, set Server to mail.yourdomain.com, port 465, Security type SSL/TLS, and keep the sign-in requirement on.
  7. Tap Next, choose your sync options, and finish.

Troubleshooting

Most failures trace back to a handful of causes. Work through these in order:

  • Wrong username: the username is the full address you@yourdomain.com, not just the part before the at sign.
  • Password mismatch: reset the mailbox password in cPanel under Email Accounts, then update it on the phone.
  • Security type off: both incoming and outgoing must use SSL/TLS on ports 993 and 465. Plain ports such as 143 or 25 often fail or get blocked on mobile networks.
  • DNS or new domain: if the domain was just added, allow time for the MX and hostname records to propagate before the mail app can resolve mail.yourdomain.com.
  • Certificate warning: if you see a name-mismatch warning, use the exact host name shown on the Connect Devices page so it matches the server certificate.

Good deliverability also depends on your domain being authenticated, so confirm SPF and DKIM are published for the sending domain. For a broader walkthrough see our email and deliverability guides, and if a mailbox still will not connect after these checks, contact our support team with the error message shown on the device.
