Using webmail with Roundcube and Horde

Webmail lets you read and send email from your ASEOHosting account in a browser, without configuring a desktop or phone client. Your cPanel account ships with Roundcube and Horde, two full webmail applications that connect to the same mailboxes on the server, so you can use either one interchangeably. This guide shows how to log in, choose between them, and set a default.

How to open webmail

There are two common ways to reach the login screen.

1. Go directly to the webmail portal by visiting https://mail.yourdomain.com or https://yourdomain.com/webmail in your browser, then enter your full email address (for example you@yourdomain.com) and mailbox password.
2. Or log in to cPanel, open the Email section, click Email Accounts, find the account you want, and click Check Email. This signs you into webmail without retyping the password.

After logging in you are taken to the webmail home, where you can pick an application or open the one set as your default.

Roundcube vs Horde

Both applications read and write the same messages, so nothing is duplicated or lost when you switch. They differ mainly in interface and features.

• Roundcube is a clean, fast, modern mail client. It focuses on email itself: folders, a good search, drag and drop, address book, filters, and message threading. Most users prefer it for day to day mail.
• Horde is a heavier groupware suite. Alongside email it includes a calendar, tasks, notes, and a more configurable interface. Choose it if you want those extra organizer tools in one place.

Because they share the underlying IMAP mailbox, a message you read or delete in one appears the same way in the other and in any desktop client connected to the account.

Set a default webmail application

If you would rather skip the chooser and land in one application every time, set it as the default.

1. Log in to webmail using either method above.
2. On the webmail home page, find the application you want under the list of installed clients.
3. Click Set as Default below that application. Future logins open it automatically.

You can change this at any time from the same page, and you can still open the other application manually whenever you need it.

Staying secure and reachable

Always connect over https so your login and messages are encrypted in transit. If your browser warns about the certificate on mail.yourdomain.com, install a certificate that covers the mail subdomain; see our SSL certificates page. Webmail is convenient, but for heavy use many people also add the account to a desktop or phone client using IMAP on port 993 and SMTP on port 465 (both SSL/TLS), with the full email address as the username.

Reliable delivery depends on correct mail DNS as much as on the client you use.
