The Comodo SSL certificate is a domain validated (DV) certificate. It encrypts the connection between your visitors and your site, shows the padlock in the browser, and requires no paperwork to issue. For most brochure sites, blogs, and the individual money sites in a hosting network, a DV certificate is all you actually need, and this one issues in about 1 to 2 hours.

What you get at a glance

  • Validation type: Domain (no paperwork). You prove control of the domain, not the identity of a company.
  • Issuance time: 1 to 2 hours once validation is complete.
  • Encryption: 256-bit encryption, signed with a 2048-bit root.
  • Reissue: Unlimited reissues for the life of the certificate.
  • Warranty: $250,000.
  • Site seal: Trusted Dynamic Comodo Secure Site Seal.
  • Browser compatibility: 99.9 per cent of browsers.
  • Mobile: Excellent mobile compatibility.
  • Subdomains: not covered (single hostname only).
  • Green address bar: not included (that is an Extended Validation feature).
  • Money-back guarantee: 15 days.

What domain validation actually means

Domain validation confirms one thing: that the person requesting the certificate controls the domain. You typically prove this by responding to an email at the domain, adding a DNS record, or uploading a file to the site. Because there is no manual company vetting, there is no paperwork and issuance is fast, hence the 1 to 2 hour turnaround here.

It is worth being clear about what DV does and does not do. Every valid SSL certificate, DV, OV, or EV, delivers the same 256-bit encryption in the browser. A DV certificate does not display your company name or a green bar, and it carries no assertion about who runs the business behind the domain. If you need that extra layer of visible identity, you would look at an Organisation Validated (OV) or Extended Validation (EV) product instead.

Reissues, warranty and the seal

Unlimited reissues mean you can regenerate the certificate as many times as you need during its term, for example after a key change, a server migration, or moving a site to a fresh dedicated IP, without buying a new one. The $250,000 warranty is the relying-party protection carried by the certificate authority; it is not something the typical site owner ever claims, but it signals the assurance level of the product. The Trusted Dynamic Comodo Secure Site Seal is an optional badge you can place on the site to show visitors the connection is secured.

Is a Comodo DV certificate right for a site network?

For operators running many sites, DV is usually the sensible default. Each site can have its own certificate, and because ASEOHosting places each site on its own dedicated Class C IP, the certificate lifecycle for one property stays independent of the rest of the network. A DV certificate covers a single hostname, so plan one per site (or a wildcard product if you need to cover subdomains). Ordering and turnaround

  1. Choose the Comodo SSL product from the SSL certificates page and complete checkout.
  2. Generate a CSR for the hostname you want to secure, or ask us to help.
  3. Complete domain control validation by email, DNS record, or file upload.
  4. The certificate is issued within roughly 1 to 2 hours and can be installed on your server.

After installation it is worth confirming your server offers a modern, well-configured cipher suite; Mozilla's SSL configuration generator is a good neutral reference for that. If a certificate ever stops matching your hostname, the unlimited reissue policy lets you fix it at no extra cost.
