What domain validation actually means

Domain validation confirms one thing: that the person requesting the certificate controls the domain. You typically prove this by responding to an email at the domain, adding a DNS record, or uploading a file to the site. Because there is no manual company vetting, there is no paperwork and issuance is fast, hence the 1 to 2 hour turnaround here.

It is worth being clear about what DV does and does not do. Every valid SSL certificate, DV, OV, or EV, delivers the same 256-bit encryption in the browser. A DV certificate does not display your company name or a green bar, and it carries no assertion about who runs the business behind the domain. If you need that extra layer of visible identity, you would look at an Organisation Validated (OV) or Extended Validation (EV) product instead.

Is a Comodo DV certificate right for a site network?

For operators running many sites, DV is usually the sensible default.
